People - Pablo Picasso & The Human Condition

Pablo Picasso

When Picasso was growing up, and before his ascent to Cubism, he was very poor, and lived in areas where there was a great deal of poverty, strife and human suffering. This is believed to have lead to his works depicting such human suffering and the Human Condition.
Right, we see two images, the first is entitled Le Gourmet (The Greedy Child)and painted in Paris in 1901. It is depicted in Blue, to denote tragedy, melancholy and mood, and expresses that the child is needy and maybe even starving scraping every last morsel from the bowl of food.
The second image is entitled Tragedy and was painted in Barcelona in 1903, depicting 3 figures who are shabbily clothed, once again painted in blue to denote the tragedy and melancholic mood. The work is said to depict Psychological suffering as experienced by Picasso when he was young and destitute growing up in Paris.
